The American system of transportation is the best in the world, and the components of the system--air, water, land--are all linked by trucks. In 1949 one in every three of these trucks was a Chevrolet. This film, produced by the Chevrolet Motor Division, contains excellent footage of Chevrolet trucks from the mid-1930s to 1949, carrying out more than fifty specific tasks. Dozens of different models of Chevrolet trucks and busses are show doing everything from hauling huge logs from the forest to transporting children to school. This film is a must for truck lovers! 15 minutes YOUR TOWN, USA 1949 Big, husky, heavy-duty Chevrolet motor trucks play a major role in the life of your town. The daily routine life of your town goes on predictably and smoothly, helped in great degree by the services performed by Chevrolet trucks. From trash removal to delivering flower bouquets, Chevrolet trucks are there. See Chevrolet trucks performing a dozen essential services in your town. 8 minutes. HEADING UP THE HEAVY DUTIES 1949 Beginning with the massive frame and continuing into the "comfort cab", the design and structural components of Chevrolet trucks is explained. Included are the massive frame, the big rear springs, the solid front axle, wide-based wheels, detailed schematic of the heavy-duty engine, synchromesh transmission, brakes, steering and cab. 5 minutes. MEETING THE CHALLENGE 1957 Two production models of the Chevrolet "Taskforce" pickup truck were challenged to reach the summit of Pike's Peak in Colorado by climbing off-road. These taskforce pickups were four-wheel drive production models with "Thriftmaster" engines. The trucks left from Colorado Springs, went through Cripple Creek, then headed off-road to "Pikes Peak or Bust". At 12,000 feet there was no loss of power, but the trucks were faced with an immense boulder field that stretched from there to the top. The trucks started out where not even mules and donkeys dared to tread, and with no damage to any mechanical part, climbed through the clouds to the 14,110-foot summit. Off-roaders, here's your challenge! 10 minutes 4 films, 38 minutes.
