In this amazing United States Army Air Force training film entitled “Story of the Helicopter” see the early experimentation and adaptation of the helicopter to military use. Produced around 1944 it begins with a Sikorsky R-4 landing at the U.S. Army Air Force testing facility at Wright Field, Ohio. Fully narrated the film will take you back in time to the early years of the helicopter, its development and testing. You’ll explore the designs of Henri Berliner, De Bothezat and several foreign inventors as well as compare the helicopter to Juan de la Cierva’s Autogiro. The Sikorsky R-4 is again introduced and fully examined and it’s flying characteristics shown. You’ll also see another modern-day design the Platt-LaPage and acquire a more accurate appreciation for the early years of rotary-wing flight. This is truly a historically significant film! NOT ONE TO MISS!
